Today — this very day — is the official release day for my seventh (published) novel, Kitty’s House of Horrors. It’s actually been available at some places for a couple of weeks, but today’s the day the online vendors start shipping. And I’m so excited! This book has some of the creepiest, scariest scenes I’ve ever written — it’s a project I specifically tackled for this book, to write my own version of a classic, trapped-in-the-woods horror story and make it as riveting as I could. I’ve been positively twitching to find out if people agree with me, and if the scenes I think are scary are the same ones other people think are scary. Writers work in isolation, but this is the moment when I find out if all my work paid off, if the words on the page do what I wanted them to do.
I’m also pleased that seven books into my career, I’m still this excited. I’m not yet jaded. I hope I never get jaded. (I’m even still checking my Amazon ranking, even though I know I shouldn’t.)
So, I’m looking for suggestions on how to celebrate a book release:
A big bottle of great wine and a really nice dinner.
A spa day.
Obsessively check Amazon ranking every hour. (Actually, I don’t recommend this AT ALL.)
Call all my relatives and ask if they’ve bought it yet.
Go to a bookstore and see it on the shelf. (That’s when it feels the most real.)
Movie and popcorn day.
Start another novel.
What else?

Yes! I’m hoping to write the first little bit of #9 today, and start revisions on #8 tomorrow.

My vote is for movie and popcorn day, or a spa day for you.
For me it’s run to the store and buy this book day, so I can read it. Good thing I have today off work.

Like Sasha, I vote for the spa day. I also like going to the bookstore to see the book on the shelf. How about both? And some chocolate, of course.

Hi Carrie! Congrats on #7. Defiantly go see it on the bookshelf. Hopefully you won’t find it, because they’ve already sold out.

A Magic Brownie from Zingerman’s. You deserve it! Congrats, can’t wait to see what’s in store for Kitty.

Thanks everyone! I actually did a little celebrating last night, and I’m having a good day today. And I’ve only checked my Amazon rank a couple of times…

I vote for all of the above! If you’re gonna celebrate, do it ALL!

Please, please don’t ever get jaded on this series. I love this series! I had and read books 1-4 in less than a week. I was waiting for book 7 to come out so I can read the next three. One book at a time just will not do for me! I must have a “Kitty” fix that lasts days not hours.
You deserve all of the above and then more for sharing “Kitty” with us!

I got KITTY’S HOUSE OF HORRORS about a week ago, and I’m anxious to read it! I love the Kitty series.

Hi Carrie,
I’m reading Kitty and the Silver Bullet right now, b/c of this blog, and I’ll definitely be purchasing more books in the series. Did I meet you on OWW several years ago (2003-ish)? Congrats on your stunning success!

All your celebration suggestions sound good to me. I actually picked it up at the local B&N last Friday … January 1st.
Congratulations on Book 7. I gotta finish another book first and will then be jumping into “Kitty’s House of Horrors”.

Congrats on the new release! It was great timing for me. I took a buzz through Amazon last night looking up the various urban fantasy authors I read to see what release dates were posted for the coming year and was thrilled to see the latest Kitty available now. I bought and downloaded it to my Kindle then and there. It’s next up on my reading list after I finish my current book. Hope you had an enjoyable celebration!
