Today — this very day — is the official release day for my seventh (published) novel, Kitty’s House of Horrors. It’s actually been available at some places for a couple of weeks, but today’s the day the online vendors start shipping. And I’m so excited! This book has some of the creepiest, scariest scenes I’ve ever written — it’s a project I specifically tackled for this book, to write my own version of a classic, trapped-in-the-woods horror story and make it as riveting as I could. I’ve been positively twitching to find out if people agree with me, and if the scenes I think are scary are the same ones other people think are scary. Writers work in isolation, but this is the moment when I find out if all my work paid off, if the words on the page do what I wanted them to do.
I’m also pleased that seven books into my career, I’m still this excited. I’m not yet jaded. I hope I never get jaded. (I’m even still checking my Amazon ranking, even though I know I shouldn’t.)
So, I’m looking for suggestions on how to celebrate a book release:
A big bottle of great wine and a really nice dinner.
A spa day.
Obsessively check Amazon ranking every hour. (Actually, I don’t recommend this AT ALL.)
Call all my relatives and ask if they’ve bought it yet.
Go to a bookstore and see it on the shelf. (That’s when it feels the most real.)
Movie and popcorn day.
Start another novel.
What else?
