I have a book due by the end of today and as a result I totally spaced with regard to writing this week’s post. So instead of my usual writing tips and insights, I thought I’d just share a story from the first days of my career. It’s called “Carrion Man” and it features a man named Grayson Shaw, a character that I’d like to return to one day, maybe see if there might not be a book or two about him in me somewhere.
“Carrion Man” was written way back in 2002, when I was first starting out, so you’ll have to excuse the clunkiness of certain passages. We all learn by doing, right? It was part of a series of six stories I did for the collection, SPECTRES AND DARKNESS, written with my good friend Drew Williams. (Drew’s story, Riding the Dragon, is a phenomenal story and the best thing in the collection, in my opinion.)
I’m also going to give fair warning too – I’m primarily a horror writer and this is a straight up horror story, so if you don’t like that kind of thing please don’t read any further.
If you do continue, well then, let me just say that I’m not responsible for the nightmares…<grin>
